Look, I know a few of you got a bit burnt last year when I said Nic Cage’s The Surfer was good, and while I stand by my thoughts, perhaps a massive new 8-part Netflix series currently filming down that way will be more to your liking? The more crazy surfer movies and TV shows shot in our beautiful South West the merrier I say!
It’s the streaming company’s first foray in the wilds of Western Australia, and the biggest series to be filmed in our State ever, so it’s fair to say we’re pretty keen. Get all the deets below, along with a delightful new cafe on Lord Street, where to score cult faves Love Ya So Matcha this weekend, and more.
P.S. stay cool out there gang — mild weekends are out, summer is back with a vengeance.

Cameras are officially rolling in our South West region on Breakers, the first Netflix series ever to be filmed in Western Australia.
And while we know many of you felt a little burnt by Nic Cage’s efforts down there last year (ourselves not included), we’ve got a good feeling about this one…
The eight-part drama is the largest screen production the state has hosted to date, with filming now underway across the region. Led by The Boys star Antony Starr, Breakers is expected to employ more than 100 Western Australians and inject over $19 million into the local economy.

‘Half coffee, half community’: 808 Specialty Coffee opens on Lord Street
“I like to say I’ve had many lives!”
It’s a searingly hot Friday morning in January, and we’re taking refuge at 808 Specialty Coffee, a new coffee window that’s just opened on Lord Street.
While we chat, owner Monique Francois is telling us about her background – first studying communications and photo media at uni, then working as a makeup artist pre-COVID and later, starting her own social media marketing business.
Notably, there isn’t a whole lot of hospitality in her CV, apart from a brief nine-month stint when she was 18. “So I dipped one toe slightly into the water!”
Monique isn’t too fazed by that, though – and her can-do enthusiasm is pretty infectious.
