Picture this: It’s Sunday morning, you’ve got your coffee in hand, the sun is slowly warming up your porch or teeny tiny balcony — wherever you’re scrolling your phone looking for a decent read to really tuck into.

Well, we don’t annoy you on Sundays with our newsletter (yet 😉), but we can tell you that today’s is home to story that you might want to file away for that morning read — a wonderful look back on 90 years of beloved Perth deli, the Re Store. Sally has done some of her finest work yet, catching up with the owners, digging into their storied history, and even getting insights from some longtime customers.

It also works if you’re chasing something to read while you enjoy this morning’s coffee, or perhaps over your Friday lunch break — wherever you end up reading it, we hope you enjoy.

“Family, respect, and quality.” 90 years of Perth continental institution the Re Store

Not many businesses make it to their 10th birthday – so when a local business makes it to a whopping 90? That’s well worth celebrating.

Even more rare? A business making it to 90 under the stewardship of the same family – but Perth institution the Re Store has proven itself to be the exception, with the fourth-generation family-run grocer and deli celebrating their 90th birthday this year.

“I used to think there were a lot of businesses that were 90 years and 100 years old, but as I’ve been finding out, it’s a rarity, and not many at all are 90 years old – and if they are, they’re not by the same owners,” says Moreno Berti, Manager of the Re Store Leederville.

Moreno co-owns the two Re Store locations with his siblings, Lorenzo and Maria, who operate the Northbridge store.

“It was my grandfather, John [Giovanni] Re, and Maria Re who started it in 1936. I always call myself a caretaker, with my brother and sister.”

Arguably Perth’s most prominent, celebrated continental grocer, the story of the Re Store’s beginnings has reached an almost mythological status…

And the winner is… A Cowaramup chardy and Pemberton pinot tie Top 100 WA wines poll

More than 25,000 votes and we still couldn't pick a favourite…

For the first time in its (admittedly short) history, the Top Up Wines People's Choice Wine Awards has ended in a dead heat — with a Cowaramup Chardonnay and a Pemberton Pinot Noir sharing the top spot.

LS Merchants’ Butter Barrels Chardonnay and Ampersand Estate’s Pinot Noir received identical vote counts in the 2026 awards, edging out Pemberley of Pemberton’s Pinot Noir, Stella Bella’s Cabernet Merlot and Cullen’s Diana Madeline to claim the title jointly.

"When I saw the results, I couldn't believe it," says Top Up Wines founder Jamie Burnett, who announced the winners at last night’s award ceremony in Fremantle. "I checked and re-checked a dozen times, but the numbers were spot on. To have more than 25,000 votes and two wines taking it out in a dead heat is extraordinary."
