A relatively minuscule percentage of AFL players manage to carve out any kind of notable career in our nation’s most popular sport, let alone find themselves cemented within the game’s folklore. A fact that makes the legacy of Dom Sheed, “a skinny kid from Kalgoorlie”, all the more remarkable.
While his career has been sadly cut short due to injury, he essentially has a pocket on the hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground named after him thanks to his match-winning goal for West Coast in the 2018 AFL Grand Final.
Something I reckon just about any of us would take if we were told that’s what we’d be known for by the end of our professional sports career…
