I see a lot of really good lookin’ food come across the desk at Perth is OK!, but I gotta say the snaps you’ll feast your eyes on below from Sally’s recent trip down to Ripple Brewing have me positively salivating. And we’re pleased to report that the great snaps still don’t do justice for Shapiro’s Shop, Ripple’s new resident food truck by chef Shauna Shapiro.
Sharing this today means I’ve kinda shot myself in the foot RE: visiting it this weekend, but why on earth would we keep something so marvellous to ourselves?! Tuck into the rotisserie chook of your dreams below, along with your last chance to farewell a couple of the greats this weekend; the return of Perth Roller Derby; a huge Melville Open Studios; and a handy little guide to Kalbarri — should you be planning a trip north any time soon.

Beers and birds: The new food truck slinging next-level cooked chooks at a Beacy brewery
Back in October, Beaconsfield taproom Ripple swung open its roller doors – welcoming in not just the Freo Doctor to the warehouse-turned-brewery, but some delicious snacks thanks to resident food truck Wanda’s Roadhouse.
Now, half a year later, a new food truck is settling in – with roast chicken aficionados Shapiro’s Shop now officially up and running.
Birds and beers? We can’t imagine a better combo…
Running each week from Thursday to Sunday, Shapiro’s Shop is the brainchild of Perth-based chef Shauna Shapiro. Originally hailing from Canada, we last spoke to Shauna back in 2024 when she was leading up the kitchen at White Gum Valley diner Lovers – but she’s also the mastermind behind bagel pop up Polly’s, which took over our feeds throughout 2024 and 2025.
Before that, you might have seen Shauna in the kitchen at Good Things or South Freo seafood mecca Madalena’s. The chef has also had stints at Sydney’s LP’s Quality Meats, Melbourne’s Anchovy and Toronto and New York’s Momofuku outposts.
All that to say: if we were to trust anyone to roast us a damn good chicken, it would be Shauna Shapiro.
