Family-run Irish pub Mons. O’Shea is now open in Freo
Plus a warning about scam events ripping West Aussies off.
When we first heard about a new Irish pub set to open in Fremantle, we had to pause for a second… Was there really no Irish pub in the Port City? Or at least, not since Rosie O’Grady’s closed almost a decade ago? Perhaps it’s the salty sea air, heritage buildings and, not least of all, festive atmosphere – but it seemed overdue a change, and the Carthy family seem to agree with their charming pub Mons. O’Shea.
Find out more below, along with AFL Origin’s return (to our neck of the woods, no less), a little PSA to watch out for scammy fake events being marketed to West Aussies, and another very cool house designed by the &Dalecki team.

Family-run Irish pub Mons. O’Shea is now open in Freo
“Back in the day, a lot of Irish pubs – you won’t see as much in the city now, but more down the countryside – would have a shop at the front,” explains Simon Carthy, a third-generation publican hailing from Drumcondra, Dublin. Joining Simon in running the pub is wife Jo, with their daughter also lending a helping hand.
