WHAT’S ON

Bluey creators collaborate with First Nations artists on new exhibition debuting this July

A major touring exhibition with a Bluey connection is headed to Perth’s northern suburbs this winter, anchoring the City of Joondalup’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Two Girls From Amoonguna makes its Perth debut at Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery from July 7, telling the intertwining stories of Arrernte and Southern Luritja artist Sally M Nangala Mulda and Western Arrarnta artist Marlene Rubuntja — two friends from the Central Desert community of Mparntwe (Alice Springs).

The centrepiece is an animated work, Arrkutja Tharra, Kungka Kutjara, Two Girls, created with Ludo Studio — the Emmy Award-winning Brissy outfit behind Bluey. It chronicles the artists’ successes and struggles in Central Australia, sitting alongside bush-dyed and hand-sewn soft sculptures, video and observational paintings.
