So we’re one week into the dreaded Fremantle Traffic Bridge closure, and I’m curious as to how it’s going for folks who use it on the reg. My (very small) sample size of two trips over the past week revealed no difference in time — Stirling Bridge was slow but it didn’t feel any worse than normal. Perhaps all the hubbub in the lead-up was to over-prepare us ahead of it being…kinda fine, actually?
But I’m keen to hear from people who actually use it, and have crafted an iron-clad poll which you can contribute to below if you feel like it, results to be revealed on Tuesday! And just for good measure, a little reminder of all the fun things to do around North Fremantle is below, if you’re looking for an excuse to pop in over the next little while.
How's week one of the Freo Traffic Bridge being closed been for you?

HOMES
Henville Street House: A Freo home inspired by the Port City
Just minutes from the hulking steel forms and industrial energy of Fremantle’s port, a home tucked down a cul-de-sac has captured its utilitarian materiality for a young family.
Designed by Philip Stejskal Architecture and built by Burgio Construction, only a sliver of the property faces its already secluded street frontage, with most of the home and garden enclosed by its four neighbours.
While the home’s corrugated iron and galvanised steel certainly evokes the smell of diesel and deep rumble of motors, the home’s two stories also replicate the scale and form of stacked shipping containers, here configured in an L-shape and forming a protective blockade around the garden.
And is there a more Freo sight than patchwork rows upon rows of shipping containers?
“The entire house is contained within a rectangular prism that has had an outdoor space subtracted from it, leaving only a skeletal outer frame and rough-sawn timber clad walls at the threshold with interior space,” says Stejskal.
