Shoutout the boys in purple for the early Mother’s Day present last night, what a game. If it wasn’t already very loose the lid has well and truly come flying off — last seen rocketing out of Optus Stadium at around 9pm last night.

Looking ahead another gloriously sunny autumn weekend awaits — so we implore you to get out there and touch some grass, absorb some vitamin D and of course, be good to ya mum.

How a 10c refund on your empty wine bottle could cost you over a dollar at the store

It can be handy coin. You’ve had a few mates around and you’re left with a bin full of empties.

And thanks to the State Government’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), those unwanted cans and stubbies can land you a 10-cent refund at recycling centres — cheers to that!

After nearly six years, that scheme is expanding. From July 1, you’ll get 10 cents back on your empty wine and spirit bottles too. Which on the surface seems like a positive — who doesn’t want to get behind recycling?

But the devil is in the detail, and the WA wine industry is sounding the alarm.

“We’re talking about an agricultural farming industry that’s under margin pressure,” explains Larry Cherubino, owner of popular South West winery, Cherubino Wines.

“This is another nail in the coffin. It has a major impact. We’re already an industry that’s at a 30-year low, probably a historical low point for the industry in general. We’re about to see a significant amount of damage.”
