What would you do if you had a spare $15 million lying around?

If your answer is: “While my financial affairs are none of your business good sir, now that you ask I do believe I would definitely invest it in one of WA’s most iconic surfing and fishing camps up in the north west and then leave it basically as is and not try and overdevelop or mess it up in anyway!”… Then boy oh boy do we have a once in a lifetime offer for you today.

If your answer is — like I assume most of us — “no”, then Jamie’s latest yarn is still worth a read, along with the rest of today’s newsletter. Enjoy!

"I'll miss going feral." Gnaraloo Station owner prepares to sell surfers' paradise

“I'll miss the stars. I'll miss the freedom. I'll miss going feral.”

Paul Richardson is a character. More than 20 years ago, the backpacker from Northern Ireland was in the right place at the right time when he ventured off the beaten track and found paradise at Gnaraloo Station.

Even better for him, paradise was up for sale.

“I was showing my mother and father why I lived in Western Australia, not just Perth, and we went up for a look at Gnaraloo Station. Back then it was up for sale…" Richardson recalls through a thick Irish accent despite the years spent here.

"We found out very early and put an offer in and managed to take it. Just everything fell in a row at the time. So, once you sign a dotted line, you're there and you don't leave.”

And for the last two decades, Gnaraloo Station has been home. But that’s about to change. Richardson has put it up for sale.

Chatting to him, you get a sense of two conflicting thoughts over the decision; relief and doubt. While he’s called the iconic patch of land home since the mid-2000s, it’s been tough work.

Fish Boss expands south of the river with new Como store

Family-run chippy Fish Boss is entering a new era with a new store now open in Como. Starting out as a roving food truck and with previous stints in Yagan Square and Vic Park, Fish Boss’ Inglewood flagship was joined by a second location on Canning Highway back in May.

“Fish Boss has always been a family business in every sense,” says owner Jamie Goddard. “I work alongside my mum and my sister every day, and together we’ve poured our hearts into building something we’re all proud of.”

“Being able to grow this business while raising my son Jude gives every challenge and every success an even deeper meaning. We hope Fish Boss becomes a place where other families can create memories, just like we’re creating ours.”
