Cecchi’s founders return to old digs with new friends at Bistro Massilia

The hospitality business is one of extremes – just as fickle as it is longstanding. And this one charming restaurant on Beaufort Street is a prime example.

It was only in September that we were announcing the arrival of neighbourhood wine bar and events space House on Beau to the spot previously home to long-running success Cecchi’s, who had since moved a block up the road to a bigger space.

Now, seven months later, the Cecchi’s founders are returning.

Owners of 965 Beaufort Street, Mark and Kylee Cecchi sold their namesake restaurant in 2024 – and here, they’re joining forces with some familiar hospo faces to create an entirely new neighbourhood bistro at their former home.

If Cecchi’s keeps things pretty firmly within the Italian culinary tradition, Bistro Massilia takes on a more varied influence.

Named after the ancient Greek colony located where Marseille now stands, the bistro is scheduled to open on April 24, bringing together French and Mediterranean influences – as well as the varied flavours you would see in Marseille today.

The UCI Gravel World Championships head to Nannup this October

The world’s best gravel cyclists are heading to Nannup this October — and it’s a first for Australia.

The 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships, set for October 10-11, will be the first time the event has been held outside Europe in its five-year history, with the small South West town beating out the Italian, Belgian and Dutch locations that have hosted it before.

The courses run through the stunning backdrop of Blackwood Valley, starting and finishing in Nannup across distances of 140.7km for elite men and 123.1km for elite women, with age group distances ranging down to 89km.

At least 80 percent of every route is gravel — rolling hills, forest landscapes and wide open roads that, according to Event and Race Director Stephen Gallagher, create a tactical dimension rarely seen at this level.
