Happy Tuesday, friends – Sally here, taking the reins of our daily newsletter once more while Troy is away this week.
And an even happier St. Patrick’s Day to all who celebrate! We hope you have plans in motion to escape the office for a spice bag and a few attempts to split the G – a pretty safe guess as to how we’ll be spending the arvo.
It won’t be the first (or last) time we’ve got around competitively downing a few creamy pints… Which got us thinking, what is it about Irish pubs that’s proving to be such a winning formula?
We did a bit of a deep dive into Perth’s Irish pub boom, chatting to the people behind some of the city’s most popular Irish drinking holes – and we hope it’ll serve as a tasty appetiser to your St. Paddy’s Day festivities.
Check it out below, alongside a fun new art exhibition for all ages coming to AGWA, WA Museum Boola Bardip’s interactive deep sea expeditions, Astroboy’s appearance at UFC Fight Night Perth, all the deets on UWA’s huge open day and heeeaps more.

The luck of the Irish: inside Perth's Irish pub boom
In our line of work, we have the pleasure of seeing a whole heap of new venues open across Perth – and the displeasure of seeing too many of them close.
The last couple of years have seen plenty of commentary on the difficulties facing hospitality operators, but we’re also interested in what venues are working right now – and the answer appears to be Irish pubs.
Where restaurants and wine bars are closing down with alarming frequency, the reverse is true when it comes to Perth’s Irish pubs – with more and more of them opening their doors, and each (seemingly) packed to the rafters, the streets flowing fast with Guinness.
So, what was the turning point – and what is it about Irish pubs that’s proving to be such a winning formula?
