New year, new us: We’ll kick off today’s newsletter by letting you know we’re on the hunt for a new team member! A Senior Journalist, to be more specific. In 2026 we want to make this daily newsletter the best it can be for our lovely readers, and a big part of that will be sharing local news stories that matter.
What does that look like? Put as simply as possible — the focus is on useful, optimistic, well-reported stories about the people, ideas, businesses, and changes shaping WA. Basically keeping you guys up to speed on what’s happening out out there in the community, minus gossip and/or clickbait.
If that’s you or someone you know, please have a little gander at our job listing on Seek.

A new Perth craft gin festival will raise funds for Variety WA
Say bye to January and hello! to Ginuary: a new craft gin festival bringing together some of Perth’s best distilleries to raise funds for Variety – the Children’s Charity of WA.
Taking over Perth City Farm on January 25, the festival will be hosted by former AFL star Chris Masten, co-founder of Beyond Distilling – with Masten and Beyond’s distiller Greg Garnish creating an exclusive small-batch mango gin just for the event.
As well as Beyond Distilling, Rainfall Distillery and Wild Roads will also get in on the action – with cocktails built around each distillery’s hero gin, and paired with handcrafted mixers from Margaret River producers Waves and Caves.
A whimsical gin garden will take over the lush Perth City Farm grounds, with five pop-up bars and a Garnish Lounge to find your new favourite flavour combo.
