HOMES
On the market: An architecturally updated 1920s weatherboard worker’s cottage
North Fremantle’s narrow streets are lined with weatherboard cottages, with rows of pinstriped corrugated roofs aligning to crisp white picket fences.
This weatherboard worker’s cottage is a little different from the rest, though – with a peek beyond its neat 1920s façade revealing a thoughtful extension designed by Philip Stejskal Architecture.
Past the sweet front courtyard with Irish strawberry trees and Donnybrook sandstone hardscaping, the two bedrooms at the front of the cottage have been retained – but the original jarrah floors have been restored, and stunningly swirling spotted gum built-in cabinetry added alongside built-in jarrah desks.
