Forgive me for being a teeny tiny bit cheeky with today’s headline as a little streetside pop-up is returning to Freo this summer that is anything but overrated… Actually, if something is super popular, is that by definition overrated? Or just really well-rated… Can you tell it’s late on Wednesday night as I type this?
Whatever the case, Café Music is leaning into its popularity and reopening on Phillimore Street from tomorrow afternoon — all that’s left is for you to try and nab one of those sweet, sweet seats in the sunshine at some point over the next couple of months.
Alongside that very stacked edition of Food News down the bottom of this newsletter, you’ll also find the announcement of a brand new NYE music festival bangin’ into Busselton; Taste Great Southern’s 2027 program reveal; concerns from environmentalists over prescribed burns down south; and a very colourful exhibition coming to AGWA over summer.

EXPLORE
Race to save WA’s ancient tingle trees ahead of prescribed burns
Travel about 400 km south of Perth to Western Australia’s South West, and you’ll find the only place in the world where giant red tingle trees grow naturally.
Known for their remarkable size, the ancient eucalyptus trees can grow up to 75 metres tall and live for more than 500 years.
But despite their ecological significance and popularity among visitors, the WA Forest Alliance fears the ancient giants are under threat from planned prescribed burns.
Four burns have been proposed in the Walpole tingle forest area, prompting environmentalists to call for greater protections for the ancient trees.

Freo’s little slice of Barcelona is back — Phillimore Street’s Café Music is reopening this Friday for more drinks, tunes and delightful times. The coffee machine still hasn’t made a comeback, but with plenty of musical mates lined up to play and a few surprises in the works, we reckon they’ll be just fine.
