Perth's best chish and fip shops

Plus a few (actually) spicy tips for the weekend ahead.

A little follow-up to yesterday’s Throwback Thursday about the ill-fated SS Koombana, which sank off Port Hedland in 1912, losing 150 passengers. Reader and author Mark J Keenan reached out with something we thought was more than worth a share:

My great-great grandmother, Louisa, and my great-uncle, Tommy (6 years old) were onboard. I had a short story published a few years back about it and was also filmed for a Disney show but the scenes didn't make the show. I thought you may be interested to read about these so I have attached the links below to a post and the story.”

For the history buffs among us you can learn more about their story here, and for everyone else, continue on to find out what restaurant is finally moving into the old Jamie’s Kitchen space in the city, our fave fish and chip shops, a chilli and distillery fest at Araluen this weekend and more.

WE’RE POPPING INTO…

Chef Drew Dawson’s summer residency at BWB comes to a close this weekend (yes, we’re devastated), and they’re celebrating with a Sunday send off from 1-6pm. Click on the pic to get a little taste of what he’s been cooking over the past few months.

SEE YOU AT…

Bring the family, some empty bags and stock up on farm fresh produce at bargain prices, while enjoying the fun and stress-free atmosphere that an outdoor market brings. Fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and fish, fresh flowers and lots more!

We’re cheating a little bit - this one’s tomorrow, but it was too spicy not to mention. There’s a chilli eating contest with Drasko’s Hot Chicken, over 30 market stalls featuring some of WA’s finest distilleries and loads more.

EAT & DRINK

With some balmy nights on the horizon (talking high-30s on Monday/Tuesday), we’re dreaming of coastal sunsets while enjoying some fresh fish and chips from Perth’s finest. If you’re in the same boat, this list should help:
