If there’s ever a sign that the quieter Jan/Feb time of year in hospo land is coming to a close it’s sharing new venues popping up around town, of which we have two in today’s newsletter alone (three actually if you count a slightly belated shoutout for Christo’s new locations).

From wining and dining on Scarborough beach to Greek summer styles in the city and fried chicken burgs to the north and south, find a little something for every taste, below.

Brighton Wine Bar to open in Scarborough

Scarborough will be welcoming a new family-run wine bar, set to open early this March.

Named after the beach just across the road, Brighton Wine Bar has taken over the former Wild Fig space at 190 The Esplanade – with an unreal sunset view to match the all-Australian wine list, three-quarters of which is exclusively WA-made drops.

Food takes a similar approach, focusing on premium local produce across chef Ivan Bayona’s Mediterranean-inspired menu – think freshly baked focaccia with za’atar butter, handmade seafood ravioli with vongole and saffron foam, picanha beef with salsa verde, as well as a robust selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

“At the heart of Brighton is connection and community,” says Ben Randall, who co-owns the bar alongside Marion McAllister and Lauren Nolan.

HYDE Perth’s Mediterranean restaurant FARRA opens this weekend

Luxe new hotel HYDE Perth is set to welcome their first guests this weekend – and with it, resident Mediterranean eatery FARRA will fire up its pans.

Officially opening on Sunday 1 March, FARRA will bring a taste of Greek summer to the city – slow days, warm nights and sunset drinks and convivial feasting – with the restaurant spilling between the hotel’s dining room, pool and bar, and rooftop terrace.

At the kitchen’s helm, Executive Chef Aaron Moore draws on his years of experience across the globe to bring together the contemporary Greek menu. Belfast born, the chef moved to Greece at the age of 17, later moving to Dublin, Australia and Cambodia. Settling in Perth, Moore has spent seven years on the pass at produce-driven restaurants Bread in Common and Coogee Common.

“FARRA is all about people coming together,” says Moore. “I love seeing friends share plates, chat, laugh, and really enjoy the moment. That sense of joy and connection is what we try to bring to every dish.”
