More Freo than Freo, we’ll be pouring one out for the artist/legend next time we’re down that way, and hope to see all of his incredible art (including of course the amazing mural behind Gino’s) preserved around the port city for years to come.

Everyone loves a local coffee shop. Who doesn’t want to stroll down the road for a flattie in their Ugg boots? Where the barista knows your name, and even better, they know your order. That’s living the dream, right?
Well, not for everyone.
Perth has a growing number of coffee shops falling victim to their own popularity. Some residents don’t see a local. They see too many people, too many cars and not enough parking on their patch.
Out in White Gum Valley, it’s flaring up again. “I reckon we’ve got another month or two before I’ll have to pull the pin,” says Mia Gammon, co-owner of Lovers Deli & Canteen.
Lovers threw the doors open in late 2024. It didn’t take long to start humming. The combo of top-notch coffee, tasty food and a cute fit-out hit the mark with (most) locals…
