Another happy accident of a newsletter today with not one, not two, but three references to our wonderful Wheatbelt.

First up, the beloved York Festival has just announced its 2026 program, taking over the historic town from October 16–18. Then you can figure out the best way to see the region’s spectacular wildflowers this season, and finally the Wheatbelt has come to the big smoke, with a new public art installation opening in the CBD later this week.

Beyond the Wheatbelt, we also recommend checking out the article on Andrew Grero AKA aerogero, a Bassendean artist who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in his mid-thirties. He’s launching a new exhibition in Inglewood this Wednesday.

Way back in 2021, in the early days of Perth is OK! Homes, you might recall us sharing a dramatically colour-blocked townhouse…

Located in North Perth, it had loomed large in our memories ever since this writer’s halcyon days as design student – after all, how could anyone forget that intensely vivid Prussian blue sitting room, or strikingly bisected green and white kitchen.

That home was designed by architect Simon Pendal – and today we’re sharing another project by the Fremantle-based practice, this time from 2020.

Located in South Perth, this sculptural addition to an existing 1934 bungalow reiterates those same colour-drenched motif that we loved so much in the North Perth townhouse – but expressed a little more softly, with a gentle sage hue that picks up the garden greenery spied through the window.

A visit to Dunsborough isn’t complete without a trip to at least a few of its local drinking and dining icons.

Yarri Restaurant, Eagle Bay Brewing Co, Peko Peko or the Dunsborough Tavern, to name just a few. And more, there’s a new addition to that list – a Perth icon now calling the coastal-dwelling town home.

Adding to their existing stable of venues across Inglewood, Applecross and Fremantle (North and South), Wild Bakery is now baking their popular sourdough loaves on location at their flash new shopfront situated in Dunsborough’s busy LIA precinct.

Though a bit off the town’s main drag, the new location features as part of a newly developed complex where a bright window-lit space houses the bakery’s impressive Italian Polin ovens and provers alongside casual seating where views of Wild’s baking process and equipment are on full display.
