Well, we’d normally give our polls a little more time, but yesterday’s about the Federal Government’s proposed social media algorithm opt-in/opt-out system was pretty clear from the get-go. At the time of writing this intro, the ‘yep, I would turn off my social media algorithm’ camp has it at 69.5% out of just over 900 votes. Another 19.8% said they’d give it a go, 4% said they liked the algorithm and 6.5% of you freebirds don’t even have social media.

Sometimes things change quickly. And while 2018 might not feel all that long ago, times sure were different.

West Coast could play football. No one had heard of COVID. And the Subiaco beer wars started the year with a big frothy bang.

If you weren’t over 18 in ‘18, strap yourself in: You could get your lips around a pint of lager for less than four bucks. No typo there. Even that mate who disappears when it’s their round was making trips to the bar. It’s likely they haven’t since.

It all seems to be happening at Hillarys lately – and there’s a spicy new addition that’s ramping things up! Located at 28 Southside Drive, in the thick of all the Hillarys Boat Harbour action, Picoso Mexican Cocina softly opened their doors in the middle of August.

This is the second Picoso location, with a South Australian outpost opening in Prospect back in May helmed by fine dining chef Oliver Luxton (previously of Restaurant Botanic), and a third location also planned for Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

A concise menu features seafood-focused small plates (think oysters, ceviche, aquachile, grilled WA king prawns, plus smoked mole-marinated wings, queso bean nachos and chipotle corn ribs), burritos (slow cooked lamb birria, Yucatán-style pulled pork and more), and a selection of tacos (all your faves: pork carnita, Baja fish, lamb birria and more).
