Well the short week is mercifully already almost over, but not without some serious business to get through in today’s newsletter.
Bookending today’s edition we’ve got a couple of hot-off-the-presses venue announcements for you this morning — both of which a) look very cool and b) we are very excited about. One of them you can already visit, the other a little ways off, and both very much worthy of your attention.
Enjoy!

Meet Backroads, the new pub breathing fresh life into a well-known Caves Road site
One of Caves Road’s best-known hospitality spots is getting a major makeover, with contemporary Aussie tavern, Backroads, set to open in Wilyabrup this November.
Taking over the former Black Brewing Co. and Duckstein Brewery site along that iconic stretch of southwest tarmac, Backroads’ sprawling property has undergone a comprehensive redesign ahead of its opening.
The venue’s new owners worked with Studio Gram, an award-winning design studio led by creative director Graham Charbonneau, to shape the look and feel of the space, drawing inspiration from old-school Australian road trips, surf missions, country pubs and roadside stops – albeit through a more contemporary lens.
And don’t worry, there will be Swanny D’s on tap…

The sultry new supper club now open in Fremantle's West End
Sometimes the most beautiful things are hidden right under our noses.
Case in point: the P&O Hotel. Built in 1901, the P&O replaced the sequence of boarding houses and hotels that had occupied the corner since around 1835, often frequented by salty dogs and deep sea skippers.
It's a grand building, characteristic of the ornate gold rush era, Federation filigree architecture around Fremantle – although over the years its been tweaked, losing then regaining its intricate balcony and balustrade, and losing and sadly never regaining its stately dome.
Now, finally, that impressive balcony will be put to good use, with Reuben's Supper Club opening upstairs…
