A couple of serious bits of news for you this morning, and a couple of fun ones to balance ‘em out. The WA Government is pressing ahead with plans to merge the state’s big three universities, and that’s despite pushback from… checks notes — all of them.
Elsewhere, Sally has unearthed a stunnin’ Klopper & Davis-designed Swanbourne home, Nickelback are bringing some photographs to Perth next year, we have a chat with down south fave Blind Corner, and over on TikTok we’re diving deep into the possibility that the extinct Nannup Tiger is still out there!

HOMES
An architectural home that blends retro style with modern liveability
We’ve been obsessed with more than our fair share of retro homes – and arguably have a higher-than-average tolerance for all the quirks and eccentricities of the authentic homes of the era.
But… What if we still love all the modern bells and whistles? Yes, yes, we know – retro purists will balk at the mere thought! But in our defence: have you seen this gorgeous Swanbourne home, completed in 2025?
Designed by architects Klopper & Davis, the distinctive home is nestled in that sweet spot between Lake Claremont and Swanbourne – with the added benefit of Maclagan Park just across the road.

‘It was really tough to start with’: Taking a trip around the Blind Corner
When Ben and Naomi Gould started making organic, biodynamic wines in Margaret River two decades ago, it’s fair to say they were about as popular as phylloxera in a French vineyard.
Flash forward 21 years, and the couple behind Blind Corner are still doing things their own way and, in their own words, not chasing perfection, just honesty.
“We didn’t make any friends,” Naomi laughs. “We were certainly the outliers, and it was really tough to start with.”
