A leap of faith reinvigorates Blackwood Valley vineyard experience

Bridgetown is known for a few things, namely its historical buildings, productive farmland and its stunning surrounds that make for idyllic family holidays and long weekend road trips.

And while the area isn’t as widely known for wine as its neighbour, Margaret River, the area is home to several wineries as part of the Blackwood Valley Wine District, too.

One of the newest to join that cohort of grape growers and wine makers is Bridgetown Winery, a fresh face to the region launched by ambitious, globetrotting duo Tayla Semmens and Brayden Couper.

Lalla Rookh’s last pour

Earlier this year, we took a look back at the 13 (now 14!) year history of CBD drinking hole Lalla Rookh – and a look towards what the future held.

Sadly, though, the gruelling landscape of city dining (and, reportedly, the increasing scarcity of office workers) has proven too challenging – with the venue announcing earlier this week their impending closure.

“After more than 14 wonderful years, our time at Allendale Square is coming to a close,” read the announcement posted to social media. “From long lunches that turned into late nights, to celebrations, first dates, familiar faces and countless glasses raised, what a journey it’s been.”

“But we’re not quite finished yet. In the lead-up to our final service, we’ll be bringing back some old favourites, hosting special events and celebrating everything that has made Lalla Rookh what it is today.”

If you are keen to bid a fond farewell, their final service will be on Wednesday, December 23.
