Score delish French pastries hidden in a suburban shopping centre
Plus meet the Poppy Ladies, behind those spectacular handmade displays.
Shoutout to Palace Arcade in Freo, closing up shop tonight with what we can only assume is gonna be one helluva send-off (more info below). Elsewhere you can meet the lovely Poppy Ladies, responsible for some incredible commemorative displays over the past 10 years. Plus find out where you can score some delicious French pastries hidden in a suburban shopping centre, get some Christmas shopping done early at the Bazaar Makers Market, and more.

Meet the Poppy Ladies: The heart behind WA’s handmade tributes of remembrance
Every November, as red poppies bloom across Perth in honour of those who served, one group of volunteers sits quietly at the heart of it all — the RSL Western Australia Poppy Ladies.
Led by former Army Airforce member Judi Welch (above left), the group has spent over a decade knitting, crocheting, and handcrafting thousands of red poppies that have become iconic features of Western Australia’s commemorative displays.

The impressive French pastries hidden inside a suburban shopping centre
When we think of artisanal French pâtisseries and boulangeries, we think rustic cobblestone streets, old-world storefronts and winding laneways… Not necessarily a former burger shop in a western suburbs shopping centre.
