Shoutout to the boys in orange who have once again finished the BBL season on top of the ladder, with a home final tonight against the boys in pink (including a very dangerous-looking Steve Smith).
The Scorchers’ continued success in this format is pretty incredible, and here’s hoping they can go around again with a win tonight, which would lead them straight to another home grand final on Sunday.

FORGOTTEN PERTH
Spend a day in 1972 with Jim, a Perth taxi driver
At the end of 2025, we delved into the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), sharing the Perth edition of the Life in Australia video series, produced by the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit (later Film Australia) between 1964 and 1966 and showcasing a glorious, sun-drenched image of Western Australia.
The NFSA is on a mission to “collect, preserve and share Australia’s audiovisual culture”, with a collection that dates back to the 1890s. Alongside preserving cinematic classics (think Picnic at Hanging Rock, or The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), the archive features a huge collection of films by the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit (later Film Australia) – often produced for either educational purposes or for the Department of Immigration.
Now, we’re fast-forwarding for a decade to 1972 to another film produced by the Commonwealth Film Unit – and spending the day with Jim McKenzie, a taxi driver from Perth.
