A very relevant-to-my-interests hump day newsletter today, kicking off with a cute little Safety Bay café serving all gluten-free food, all the time. As a GF-sympathiser on account of having a coeliac partner, normal bread makes me a sleepy boy so we’re always happy to shoutout places fightin’ the good fight!

In other news, Spacey Jane are winding up a massive year of touring with two final hometown shows in December (which is actually way more relevant to our newest member of the team, Esteban); it’s World Bee Day today and the Murray Street Mall is celebrating all things black and yellow; and today’s edition of what’s on this weekend is positively jam-packed with all kinds of magnificent markets to get amongst.

EAT & DRINK

This fully gluten-free Safety Bay café is serving the community without compromise

Tucked just a short stroll from the shoreline of Safety Bay, Bayside Barista is building a community hub built on passion, connection, a good cuppa, and food for all.

For husband-and-wife duo Andrew and Kalina Franklin, the venue represents a dream years in the making. After spending two decades living in New York City, the pair returned to Andrew’s childhood home with a vision to create a welcoming space where everyone could enjoy great food without compromise.

And nearly 10 years on, their bustling café has become an institution.

From the cosy booth seating to the sun-soaked terrace, Bayside Barista hums seven days a week with beachgoers, regulars and families settling in for a cup of Gesha coffee, delicious brunch and cabinet full of sweet treats.

But what truly sets the venue apart is what’s missing from the menu: gluten.

If you love a weekend market, this is the guide for you — what’s on around Perth this week

One of the more pleasing third spaces that has arisen over the past few years is surely the weekend market. By no means a new concept, Perth has plenty of them around town all the time and if you’re on hunt for some new options this weekend, you’re in luck:

‘Gram of the Week

One for the weekend warriors: Churchman Brook Dam is 45 minutes southeast of Perth and is a scenic spot for picnics, walking trails and a playground.

Built in 1929, the dam once helped provide a substantial portion of Perth’s water supply. Today it’s an ideal spot to enjoy and explore the Perth Hills.
