Well no blown-over outdoor chair memes for us over the weekend, though perhaps a couple of submerged ones might have been appropriate. Thoughts with everyone who actually did go through it up north (Premier’s Relief Payments were activated yesterday), and we’re looking forward to — hopefully — not touching this sign again for a hot minute.

New shark monitoring receiver for Margaret River, shark bite kits slated for Perth beaches

The South West’s shark monitoring network is getting an upgrade, with a new receiver set to be deployed at Margaret River Main Break off Surfers Point — just ahead of the Margaret River Pro in April.

The receiver joins three others already in place within the shire, covering popular breaks at Lefthanders and Cowaramup Bay. Once the Pro wraps up, it stays in the water permanently.

And in shark safety news closer to home, the Town of Cambridge may become the first local government in WA to install Community Shark Bite Kits on its beaches.

Councillors voted unanimously at their February meeting to allocate $10,000 in the 2026-27 budget toward purchasing, installing and maintaining ten kits across its beaches — though the plan won’t be confirmed until the budget is adopted in June.
