Perth para ice hockey doco wins MIFF audience award ahead of national cinema run

A documentary about one of Perth’s most unlikely sporting clubs is heading to cinemas around Australia after picking up an audience award at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Hard As Puck, written and directed by Isaac Elliott, follows the Garden Island Pirates, a grassroots para ice hockey club based in Perth that somehow keeps going despite having little money, few players and very limited access to ice.

As the documentary’s trailer says, “In the scorching heat of Western Australia…”
